Erosive gastritis : what it is

Erosive gastritis refers to a very common inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract.

Gastritis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane that lines the inside of the stomach.In this case there is a violation of acid secretion of gastric juice and other components responsible for digestion.

The disease can occur without any signs or accompanied by a number of unpleasant symptoms, which in some cases substantially violate the patient's life.

One form of the gastric mucosa is an inflammation erosive gastritis.Its main feature is the appearance of the gastric lining to single or multiple erosions that are surface defects mucosa.In contrast to the ulcers, which are also accompanied by a violation of the integrity of the stomach, erosions heal without the formation of connective tissue scar.

Erosive Gastritis can be acute or chronic and is considered a significant risk factor for the development of gastric ulcers and gastric bleeding.On chronic erosion can say that if the mucosa

defects do not heal and over 6 months.

Erosive gastritis: prevalence

erosions on the mucous membrane of the stomach and duodenum in modern humans are fairly common.This is partly due to chronic stress, adverse conditions of life and work and malnutrition.

Statistics show that acute erosive gastritis is more common in men, often younger than 30 years, but they usually suffer girls among children.Chronic erosion also occur more frequently in men and older.

Chronic erosive gastritis occurs in 2-20% of patients who underwent endoscopic examination of the stomach about the pain in the upper abdomen.

This condition is often accompanied by other chronic diseases, such as diseases of the liver, pancreas, kidney, cardiovascular system, lungs, blood and endocrine organs, autoimmune diseases.

Erosive gastritis: what are the reasons

exact cause of development of erosive lesions of the mucous membrane of the stomach has not yet been established.

One of the possible mechanisms of the disease, especially acute form it is considered the stress that is accompanied by violation of the blood supply of the mucous membrane and its hypoxia, ie oxygen starvation.This results in necrosis of the stomach lining cells and appear to erosion.

acute erosive gastritis also occurs under the action of the mucous membrane of ethanol, drugs (especially from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), chemicals.Often it is accompanied by extensive trauma, burns, blood loss, brain concussion.

Among the possible causes of the chronic form of erosive gastritis can be distinguished and the violation of the power structure, constant and severe stress, medications from the stomach irritating effect, smoking, alcohol abuse, chronic diseases of other organs and systems.

Recently, more and more attention is paid to the infection of the gastric mucosa a special type of bacteria called Helicobacter pylori.These organisms have specific ways of survival in harsh acidic environment of the stomach, alkalizing it.In addition, bacteria stimulate the secretion of gastric juice, and promote the development of dysbiosis violate motor activity of the gastrointestinal tract.All of these factors favor the inflammation and ulceration of the stomach and the intestine wall.

Erosive Gastritis: Symptoms

often erosive gastritis, especially its chronic form, are asymptomatic.However, in some cases, may cause the following symptoms, which are called dyspeptic:

  • dull aching pain in the upper abdomen, often on an empty stomach or at night;
  • heartburn, acid regurgitation, or eaten food;
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • chair disorder with prevalence of constipation.

One of the most dangerous complications of erosive gastritis - gastric bleeding.Its symptoms are:

  • vomiting with an admixture of fresh or altered blood (like "coffee grounds");
  • tarry black stools;
  • admixture of fresh blood in the stool.

If excessive bleeding in the patient's blood pressure drops rapidly and develops a shock, so this condition requires immediate diagnosis and treatment.

Complications erosive gastritis

erosive gastritis predisposes to the development of the following complications:

  • peptic ulcer disease;
  • polyps of the stomach;
  • gastric bleeding;
  • benign and malignant tumors of the stomach.

erosive gastritis, flowing in the background of infection Helicobacter pylori, can move in atrophic gastritis.In this condition, a gradual marked atrophy (functional disorders) cells that produce enzymes and hydrochloric acid, which is accompanied by digestive disorder.

believed that atrophic gastritis in turn, predisposes to the development of two tumors: cancer and stomach MALT-lymphoma, i.e. tumors of mucosal lymphoid tissue.
